40 year-old Fanis , now living in Athens , grew up as a young Greek boy in Istanbul , where he learnt much about spices and cooking from his beloved culinnary philosopher granfather. Forced to leave Istanbul during the political conflict between Greece and Turkey , Fanis has not seen his granfather for 35 years. Upon the news of the old man falling ill , Fanis returns to Istanbul and embarks on an emotional journey that takes him back to his childhood , remembering Saime , the girl he left behind.
